lots of thumbs up

when i watch movies i often zone out or rather i zone in to the movie so much that i lose touch with my surroundings... can't help it. my husband can attest to this and it's sometimes a frustration for him when we're watching lame movies that need to be made fun of while we're watching. sorry chum. anyway, on Fiday night we saw Walk the Line, a movie we were both very excited for and we were a bit bummed when the only seats left in the stadium seating theater were the upper right corner. nevertheless, it was excellent! let's just say i don't remember where i was from 9:50 - 12:45 last Friday night but i know i was with Johnny Cash.

x.y.z.p.d.q.

yesterday, as i drove home in the 4:30 setting sun i realized that my fly was down... and had been for the majority of the day.

the worst part was realizing that i'd spent over six hours interacting with all of those people, not having the foggiest notion. geez!

would you like me to sing for ya?

okay, okay... it's been a while but blame it on the students - not me. last weekend i had a dream that i was teaching the intro to the visual arts class and i was shooting from the hip. i was just making stuff up (including the assignment i gave, which was to memorize a portion of Handel's Messiah to sing to me). half way through giving the assignment i realized that it was a lousy, irrelevant assignment and even more importantly, i really did not want to listen to all these students sing for me. i was frustrated and to make things worse i couldn't remember any of my students' names. the jerks. so cut me some slack.

dia de los twix bars

this halloween was a first for me... i now live in a place where kids came to my door to trick-or-treat. some of the best stuff i saw was: a silver alien, a dead guy and butt-kicking skeleton costume. of course we had a few teenagers come dressed in a t-shirt and jeans and when we asked what they were it was some totally lame thing. one kid just put his candy bag over his head and made a boogalie-woogalie sound. give me a break. oh well, the reeses is what he came for and a reeses is what he'll get. on a more positive note, i was very gald to see that the so-called 'trunk-or-treat' had not completely phased out good ol' fashioned trick-or-treat. indeed, there is still hope for the future.

this year we won 'best overall' in the pumpkin carving contest

permanent marker question

with all of the technology available, when will we create a permanent marker that doesn't send you reeling?

the truth about the truth

today i was on a three-person panel of 'experts' talking to a philosophy class about Truth (yes, with a capital T) according to science, art and religion. i represented the art field. fortunately my brother called and woke me up from a post-lunch nap just in time, otherwise i would have been much more than 30 seconds late and very embarrassed. he agreed that the fashionably late thing was probably meant to be and it echoed my ideas on truth quite nicely. but most of the students were more interested in the intelligent design theory and if it should or shouldn't be taught in science classes. oh well, i had a chance to talk about Yves Klein and that was fun.

simply a bargain

a couple of fish tacos must have done the trick. or maybe they just added to the unpleasant feeling i had on Saturday morning. either way, it's time to get a blog of my own and take things into my own hands. i mean, why should i sit uncertain while others experience their lives through blog-colored glasses? really.
